2.OA.A.1 Problem Solving for Unknowns Addition and Subtraction Scavenger Hunt
Addition and subtraction change diagrams directly address the standard 2.OA.A.1 – problem solving for unknowns. The three unknowns addressed in this activity are start unknown, change unknown, and result unknown.
There are practice problems for each of the unknowns that can be done whole group before completing the scavenger hunt. Simply project the problems onto your Smart Board/Promethean board or print out the pages to use under a document camera.

I give my students a hands on learning experience with a gradual release of control. I like to follow an "I do", "We do", "You do" approach to learning. Students share their knowledge with each other through lots of sharing and classroom discussions.
