These are spelling word crossword puzzles are for the reading series "Journeys" at the 5th grade level. It is important for students to not only know the proper spelling of these words, but the definitions and the context that they are meant. Students will read the "clues" which are the definitions of the spelling words and choose the correct word from their weekly list to complete the puzzle. These are scavenger hunts that make students delve deeper into the text and the story that we are working on for the week. These scavenger hunts include text dependent questions that students need to analyze the text and perform close readings to answer.
