I had students fill this out during and after finishing a game of Oregon Trail. I sent the kids on the trail before we learned most of the Westward Expansion and Manifest Destiny materials. An assignment where students read the quick summary of a few different famous decisions made by the U.S. Supreme Court (Roe vs. Wade, Brown vs. Board of Ed., U.S. vs. Nixon, and Obergefell vs. Hodges). After reading the summary students state whether or not they agree with the decision and then explain their reasoning. The assignment does a good job as an early activity to help students understand what the Supreme Court does and how its decisions can have impacts on everybody.

Students analyze a map of the vote counts for each state and then answer some questions. There is a slight Indiana focus that can easily be edited if you teach in another state. This was created for the students to complete a day or two before the 2016 presidential election.

This assessment is used in my 7th grade general education ELA classes. This is an assessment that includes vocabulary matching, a handful of reading comprehension multiple-choice, character matching, two extended-response questions, and an extended writing portion on the last page. This can be used as an actual assessment and/or to help guide a teacher new to this book on what to be focusing on. Also, other assessments for this book are available in my store.

Students will create their own map of Japan and its geographic features/surroundings. My assignment guides students to use a page in their textbook for help. Be sure to either change that to your book's page number or some other instruction based on whatever guide you're able to provide.

These are a collection of stations that I put together for my 8th grade American History class. I printed each of the stations and laminated them, placing a handful on each table. I use this to help re-introduce timelines to my 7th graders near the beginning of the year. We look at some examples and review the basics of why they are useful. We then progress to a section of the PowerPoint that gives students two different events and challenges them to determine the amount of time that has elapsed between the two events. A short assignment that helps students learn basic information about the Terra Cotta Army.

As students are learning about archaeology and how it reveals the history of the world, students start to think about how our own history might be told to future inhabitants based on our own artifacts.

A quick assignment I created during the first month of the school year with my seventh graders when I realized many of them didn't understand what a national border is and/or how to recognize one on a map. The assignment refers to their textbook, but you can easily edit the page numbers to work with any other map or book you may have access to.

A quick activity to get students thinking about the importance of inventions and innovations. Students will also recognize and be able to identify several key inventions of the early Chinese. This short activity can go a long way toward building meaningful conversations and other activities later during your unit on early China.

A quick three-question survey to give kids before you begin learning about China's family-planning policies. I prefer to not really hint toward the kids why I'm asking them these questions, but many of them are able to guess and figure it out anyway. By the way, I cut each document into three different papers in order to save materials. Each third of the document is identical.

A good organizer to be used when first teaching students about the different government types. One sheet only works for one government type, but make as many copies as you need for however many governments you are studying.
