Preview of Standing Wave Slinky Lab

Standing Wave Slinky Lab

Created by
Bryce Bearb
Students use a slinky, or similar product, to produce standing waves of various harmonics. They record data, perform calculations, and compare experimental values to theoretical values. Can be used as an introductory lab or formative assessment.

Physics Project - Cardboard Chair

Created by
Bryce Bearb
An introductory physics project to get students familiar with the aspects of take-home projects, including material constraints, time constraints, and prototype testing. A competitive aspect is also added to the grading, which helps with student motivation and overall quality of the projects, as well as getting students more acquainted with the "real world."

A simple lab setup that gives students hands-on experience with moles and recaps fundamental chemistry concepts! Six stations are set up with materials commonly found in chemistry labs. I have my students determine the chemical formulas of the substances described at each station as well as their molar masses before allowing them to enter the lab. 3 of the stations require students to calculate the amount of moles of a given substance contained in plastic sandwich bags. I measure and write the m

Chemical Reaction Types Card Sort

• I would do this activity as an introduction into reaction types. • Put students in groups and give them only the cards with reaction type names and definitions and have them match them based off of prior knowledge and context clues. • Once all groups have most of the cards matched (they do this quickly), we go over them and they write the correct definitions on the summary sheet provided. • I then pass out the cards with the generic equations, and they match these to what they think is the app

Empirical Formulas Foldable

A tool used to help students in practicing calculations of empirical formulas. Students first cut along the vertical lines up to the bold horizontal line. This results in four "flaps". I have the students label the outside of the flaps (once folded down) with the words "Mass, Mole, Divide, Round", to better remember the order of the steps. I then get them to open the flaps back up and I go through the skeleton notes given for each step (red words can be removed). Then, I model by working out the

Class-made Periodic Table Individual Element Assignment

Created by
Bryce Bearb
An example, template, and rubric for a small research project that requires students to look up facts about an assigned element and use the information to complete their element's square. Once turned in, they can be cut out and stuck onto a wall or bulletin board to create a periodic table.

What defines a pendulum's period? (Inquiry Lab)

Created by
Bryce Bearb
This is meant to be an introductory activity to lead students in designing their own investigation into what determines the period of a pendulum.
