I can't believe I've been in and out of classrooms for 22 years now! I'm not that old!! I started with a composite class of Year 2's and 3's. From there, I moved on to five years with Year 1. Then I had my own beautiful children and taught the occasional day with relief teaching. When I moved back into the classroom, I had a variety of Year 2, 3 and 5. Classrooms are heaven to me. They symbolise the possibility of what the world could become - and I just love the energy and buzz of small minds learning!

You’re teaching lower primary and everything is sailing along smoothly until.....the girl fights start! What is it about girls and exclusion? I got tired of playing Judge Judy during my lunch time, so I came up with this idea which seemed to sort my girls out. Classroom Heaven: Behaviour Management

For many years parents and teachers alike have commented on how peaceful and busy my classroom environments are. I thought I'd share my behaviour management ideas with you! The philosophy behind my system is ‘respect for every child’; ‘we are a team’; and ‘we all are accountable for our actions’. After using this system, children even begin self-monitoring themselves if it has been implemented in a nurturing environment with respect. It consists of a poster and individual child name tags. Experience

Teaching style

I'm always modifying my teaching style. Each year it's slightly different to suit the types of children who have been entrusted to me. Generally, I like order and structure, but I'm also very creative and spontaneous. These seem to balance themselves out to create a peaceful, busy, fun and engaging atmosphere. I like cooperative and inquiry based learning. I like learning alongside the children and act more as a resource for their learning, rather than the expert in the room, although as times I love a good rant. I find this style engages the child an makes them realise they can take charge of their own learning.

Additional biographical information

I love dreaming big dreams. I like thinking about what could be possible and trying to achieve it. Sometimes my brain buzzes faster than my body! I'm a nature lover, a tree hugger, a toe tapper and a thought-dweller. “I dwell in possibility…” ― Emily Dickinson
