Once students understand their key vocabulary for RI.1, they are ready to attack implicit vs. explicit information at level 2 of Webb's Depth of Knowledge (DOK2).
I have used this simple activity with my sixth graders to assess their abiity to distinguish between the two types of evidence they will encounter within texts in a T-chart Graphic Organizer.
Could be used on a choice board (as I have used) or in literacy centers!
Answer Key is included.

Type your standard of focus in the center. Differentiate by providing students with activities to match learning targets at different depths of knowledge (DOK)! Great tool for organization and easy board for students to use!
Once students complete an activity with success...I allow them to use a bingo "dobber" to mark the box (oddly, sixth graders get motivated by that!)
The bottom right square is designated for an "end-of-standard" writing assignment or project...leaning closer to a DOK level
Look at the given photograph of the 9/11 aftermath. Caption it (who, what, when, where, why, how?)...then complete the quick write (prompt).

Great Choice Board for student engagement with an in-class movie, focussing on several important elements of literature. I utilized the CCSS to align the activities and response activities in the choice board. This board is in Word format and IS editable...in case one may want to make this board more specific to a certain movie. Smaller boxes within each task may be utlized for teacher check.
