Once students understand their key vocabulary for RI.1, they are ready to attack implicit vs. explicit information at level 2 of Webb's Depth of Knowledge (DOK2). I have used this simple activity with my sixth graders to assess their abiity to distinguish between the two types of evidence they will encounter within texts in a T-chart Graphic Organizer. Could be used on a choice board (as I have used) or in literacy centers! Answer Key is included.

Easy to use research template and slide presentation graphic organizer.

Fairly simple way to keep track of students mastery of the 6th grade Reading Literature standards at the different Depths of Kowledge. Keep track of what level they are at on mastery. Typically, I use knowledge and understanding of vocabulary as DOK 1. This is a safe and easy way to keep track of student mastery progress and these "temperature checks" can easily facilitate differentiation! I use them and they totally motivate my 6th graders!!!
