I have been teaching in NYC Public Schools for 13 years in grades 3-5. I have taught all subjects, co-taught, and have been departmentalized in math/science and literacy/social studies, so my experiences range across many areas.
In my classroom literature circles I have been moving away from traditional roles. I found that often the students would just share their role and then would move on to the next person. I created this form to help them prepare for discussion. It follows close reading: 1st read (comprehension), 2nd read (dig deeper with words and a section of the text), 3rd read (QAR). They will use this form to guide their discussion and help them dig deeper into the text.
