Nuclear Chemistry Research Project

Created by
Carl Mitchell
This is a 3-4 day lesson that covers all nuclear chemistry objectives with the exception of half-life. Students are engaged in research using computers or other internet connected devices to produce an informational product. It is meant to both introduce, instruct, and assess student learning. I have found it to be very engaging and efficient with a much higher knowledge retention rate than traditional teaching methods. Includes teacher instruction, student materials, and a rubric.

Best Problem-Based Introduction to Forces

This lesson introduces Newton's second law and acceleration as a product of force over mass. Students work together to determine the formula by exploring how car makers use trade-offs to make cars fast. It is one of the most engaging lessons that I have ever taught. All students become very interested in this subject matter.

Included: Powerpoint and problem based lesson designed to teach the entire streams unit in Earth/environmental sciences. It covers erosion, deposition, and other stream processes. The project portion guides students through learning about human interactions with water systems by designing a waterside roadway. The lesson can be adjusted for various ages and learning levels as well as for time (from 2 days to 1 week).

General Chemistry Lab Report instructions and rubric

Created by
Carl Mitchell
High school students need to be familiar with completing lab reports before entry into college. This file provides a skeleton with instructions for students to use in creating lab reports. It includes a rubric for understanding their scores and is meant to be used for any lab. It's great for use on multiple labs, and reduces the need for giving writing and form instructions for each lab.
