About the store

Experience

I have recently retired after 30 years of enjoying my career in education. I had the privilege of teaching first grade, being an elementary counselor and then being the Director of Guidance & Testing for my school system. If you ever want to work with delightful people, work with elementary counselors. I have also taught in the Education Department at the University of Alabama where I was involved with the teacher candidate program.

Teaching style

Cooperative learning groups are not a new concept but they still work really well. Having a combination of ability levels and personalities within each small group allows for peer tutoring and different talents to compliment each other.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I have been blessed with wonderful opportunities and recognition by my peers. I was named Educator of the Year and have had the privilege of presenting to local and statewide audiences. In June 2013 I am excited to present at the national conference in Atlanta called Innovative Strategies in Counseling. My topic will be, It's a New Day for Assertive Girls in Grades 3-7.

My own education history

My undergraduate degree is from the University of Alabama and my Masters in School Counseling is from an outstanding program at the University of Montevallo.

Additional biographical information

I have been married to my high school sweetheart since 1975 and have two incredible sons. AND I am about to be a grandmother for the first time so I am over the moon with excitement!
