About the store
I've taught at the middle and high school level, but the bulk of my time has been teaching 9th and 10th grade math to remedial, grade level, honors, and language learner classes. When I was a student, I also worked as a preschool teacher and a college writing TA!

Quadratic Equation Word Problems (Real World Analysis)

Created by

This resource includes multi-part word problems that focus on using a quadratic model to analyze questions in context. In each of these problems, students calculate and interpret key features of quadratic functions (axis of symmetry, vertex, y-intercept, x-intercepts) based on a real world context. They can factor for the first problem, but will need the quadratic formula for the second two. There are three total problems, and the data for each is genuine! Good to know* You can use each probl

In this activity, students explore a professional athlete’s performance time. They’ll explore this question through real data for one athlete—Aaron Rogers, the quarterback for the Green Bay Packers. Is he getting better and better? Did he get better and level off? Or did he hit a peak and start heading downhill? ObjectiveIn this activity, students calculate key features of quadratic functions (axis of symmetry, vertex, y-intercept, x-intercepts), graph parabolas, and analyze their model in t

In this activity students work in pairs to complete a sequence of problems. Partner A and Partner B have different questions, but the answers they'll get will be the same. If Partner A and Partner B both get the same answer for problem one, they’ll know they got that one right! If students get different answers, they can swap papers to see if they can figure out the mistake. This lets each student check their work and support each other, while giving them both the motivation to complete each pro

Teaching style

When it comes to the math, it's all about lessons and activities that engage students--ones that make them look forward to class and to seeing their growth each day! There's nothing I like more than making lessons that knock it out of the park. At a more personal level, it's all about unlocking students' power--ensuring they value themselves, believe in themselves, and recognize they can do anything. Once that foundation is solid, they're ready for anything--in or outside the classroom.
