About the store
I've now been teaching for nearly 15 years (yikes, that long already!??). I've taught Adult Education, Alternative Education, English, History and even more, but my main focus has been Indigenous Studies (First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples in present-day Canada) and integrating Indigenous history, cultures and perspectives into all subjects in the curriculum. While I am not an Indigenous person, I have endeavoured as a settler ally to make connections to nearby Indigenous communities and Knowledge Keepers, and have taken numerous courses and attended various workshops/conferences/gatherings to learn as much as I can to pass on to students. Through Special Education and Student Success/Guidance, I have also supported Indigenous youth by promoting local Indigenous pedagogical practices and by connecting with community partners. I am currently pursuing my Master of Education with a focus on Indigenous Education.

Awards & shining teacher moments

One moment with a student that still stands out to me is when I was teaching adults who were returning to get their high school diploma and nearly all of them were very low-income. When my grandmother passed away, a student gave me a sympathy card, but it was one that had already been used and given to them; the student wrote that they didn't need the card anymore, but wanted to show me that they were thinking of me even if they couldn't afford their own card. I still have that card.
