This is a great beginning of the year activity, or to do during your periodic table unit. You can do the activity multiple ways - I typically tell them to color the words and numbers in their favorite color, and draw three things they love in the white background. I turn it into a class periodic table to display for Parent Night.

Experience

I've taught science in both Middle and High School, including Physical Science, Biology, and Chemistry.

Teaching style

I tend toward the creative and fanciful, using humor, pop culture (especially the geeky stuff), and fantastical elements in my lessons. Project Based Learning, stations, and inquiry are all my cup of tea. I believe that science should be fun, and I design my lessons to encourage awe and wonder.

I received the John Deihl Award for Excellence in Analytical and Biochemistry from Shepherd University in 2006.

My own education history

I have a B.S. in Biochemistry from Shepherd University and a B.A. in Secondary Education, Biology from Western Governors University. I am currently working on my M.S. in Software Engineering from University of Maryland University College.
