About the store
I began teaching in 1997 and have taught high school level math since that time. I have taught Pre-algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, and AP Statistics. My family and I also spent two years at Taejon Christian International School, where I taught in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program. I currently teach Algebra 1 & Algebra 2 at North Junior High in Boise, Idaho, as well as the Secondary Math Methods course for pre-service teachers at Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, Idaho.

This powerpoint uses pictures of apples and bananas to represent a real-world system of equations. Using click-by-click animation, students can see how one apple can be replaced with three bananas because they are of equal value. This series of slides then lays the ground work for students to move from pictorial equations to symbolic equations using number and variables.

Experience

I began teaching in 1997 and have taught high school level math since that time. I have taught Pre-algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, and AP Statistics. Teaching style

I combine group work and discovery learning with direct instruction, activities, and modeled examples to make math accessible and fun for my students.

I earned a B.A. in Mathematics from Northwest Nazarene University in 1996, a B.S. in Math Education from NNU in 1997, and M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction from NNU in 2001.

My wife and I are both long-time educators and we are the proud parents of a middle schooler and a high schooler who also love school and learning.
