In this activity, students will engage in planning a trip to an aquarium and the cost associated with that trip. Students will be asked to estimate how much money they should take on the trip based on a school newsletter. Students will then be given actual menus and a gift shop flyer make exact calculations on how much money they will need to get everything that they want. This activity requires students to match equivalent representations of fractions with one another. The focus is to develop a full understanding of what a fraction is through peer and classroom discussion. Students will match fractions represented on number lines, in diagram form, stacked fraction, and scenario.
