Students are to choose three careers they are most interested in to do research on. I follow up on this assignment by having students pick their top career and make it into a presentation to share with the class.

I can use the Distributive Property to compute multiplication problems mentally and to rewrite algebraic expressions.

Students cut and paste the table into their interactive math notebook. As a class we then went through and added examples of each property. Students then draw an interpretation of their own to demonstrate the meaning of the property.
This student KWL Chart is helpful when activating and building schema with students on any topic. I usually have students fill out the first two columns before we learn and then after we have covered the topic they fill out the last column. The KWL Chart directs a students thinking and encourages him or her to ask questions and seek answers to their questions in all curriculum areas.
