About the store
I am a middle-high school teacher and former library/media specialist in my fourth year of teaching. Previously teaching middle school reading intervention, I was always looking for something to make the lessons more interesting to my students and often had to adapt or create my own. Most of what you will find here are activities that I used with my students (most if not all being reluctant readers) to engage them and make reading and writing fun.

Classic Poetry Mini Unit

This project based mini unit has students identify which classic poet they would most enjoy then working either in groups or independently gathering background on that poet and analyzing one of their most famous poems (options provided). I did this in my classroom over a two week stretch with the goal of teaching students how to read poetry the way poets intended for it to be read - for pleasure and with feeling. Overall feedback from students was positive and I've noticed that they better unde

Book in Verse Project

This is an independent reading project that I paired with my Classic Poetry Mini Unit however it can very easily be a stand alone or addition to any poetry units you already teach. The idea is to have students engage with long-form, modern poetry by reading a book in verse. They then needed to give a presentation about why the author chose to tell this story through poetry/verse rather than traditional prose and what they understood the pros and cons of storytelling through verse are.

Teaching style

I try to be as hands on as possible, it's important than my students can learn by doing instead of just listening to me drone on and on.
