This resource includes 18 days of fraction choral counting. This is a routine that I used with 4th graders to build number sense with fractions. It is super engaging, and leads to great conversation. I used this paired with BrainingCamp, and had a student adding/taking away fraction bars on a number line to help students visualize. This product includes discussion questions and a reflection question for each chapter of Stamped For Kids. It functions similar to a novel study. There is not an answer key. I answered questions along with students as we went over chapters together. I did some chapters whole class, some where students worked with a partner, and some in small groups.
This activity includes 3 sorts for rounding whole numbers. The target rounding sheet works for all three sorts. The first sort has students rounding to the thousands place, the second sort has students rounding to the ten thousands place, and the third sort has students rounding to the hundred thousands place. Students sort if it rounds to the target number or not. Numbers go up to the millions and hundred thousands to align with VA 4th grade SOL standards.
I used this sort with a small group to remediate misconceptions around units of measure with US Customary and Metric. We first color coded the vocabulary by length, weight/mass, and volume, and then looked for key words to help us identify which unit of measure words we needed to pick from.
I created 7 different sets of labels that you can use to have students label a big Virginia Map. The map is not included. This aligns with the 4th grade VA Studies SOL. Skills are broken into items that students can do with a calculator, and cannot do with a calculator (according to VA 4th Grade Math SOLs). Student 1 will flip two cards. If student flips a problem and answer that match, he/she can keep the match. Then it is Student 2's turn. Student with most matches at the end wins.
