Math Scope and Sequence: Grades K-5

Have you ever needed a quick, easy reference to see what students should have been taught already? I made this scope and sequence based on California Common Core standards but they could be a general guide for any states that use Common Core. I've been told that this was really useful by collegues, so I thought I'd share it here. Hope it is helpful!

Wags to Riches: Putting the VALUE in Place Value!

What is the difference between "place" and "value"? This board game boosts students' comprehension of "place" and "value" up to the hundred thousands place. Also, it gives extra practice with expanded form. Players get to pick a dog to walk and earn money along the way as they answer place value questions. This game would be ideal for a math center, small group instruction or for an assistant to work with students who need reinforcement!

Integer Bingo: Adding and Subtracting Integers

I usually set up a little standup (included) to remind students of the rules for adding and subtracting integers during this game. This particular bingo game works best in pairs, so I only included 2 bingo sheets. My students really enjoy playing this with me and they have improved so much (especially with subtraction)! This game would work well for a center, in partners, or even for a TA to use one-on-one with that student who needs more practice!

Experience

I taught 3rd Grade in Virginia for 16 years. During that time, I worked with children with learning disabilities in an inclusion setting as well as gifted students in a gifted cluster classroom. Teaching style

I believe learning should be fun! Children retain best when their emotions are connected to their learning experience. What better way to learn than by playing games? I'm also a firm believer that teachers need to engage students through their senses as much as possible. Games provide great visuals as well as kinesthetic and auditory reinforcement.

My own education history

I graduated from Freed- Hardeman University with a BS in Elementary Education. Also, I have an LD endorsement from Old Dominion University and a Gifted Endorsement form the University of Virginia.
