About the store
I taught 3rd Grade in Virginia for 16 years. During that time, I worked with children with learning disabilities in an inclusion setting as well as gifted students in a gifted cluster classroom. Currently, I tutor children from Pre-K through 5th grade in Newport Beach, California. I can be reached at cogslearning@gmail.com if you are interested in online or in person tutoring.

Decimal Place Value Chart

My students enjoy this colorful version of the Place Value chart. They place foam numbers (refrigerator magnets would work, too- or they could just write and erase numbers) right on the board to create different decimals. Little "Dewey" decimal (ha-ha) always says "and" when we read the number!

Here's a freebie that I use all the time! Just laminate it or place it in a clear plastic folder and have students write digits into the chart using a dry erase marker. The "comma" is a pet dog who says, "thousand" when he barks. *grin* This helps so much for students who just don't "get it" or who need more practice.

Chibis are cute little cartoon characters with big heads and little bodies that originated from Japan. Here is a blank chibi you can personalize for your classroom! My teacher freinds and I had fun with these! Many of us had our own chibi posted outside our classroom doors to welcome our students. Color and enjoy! If you'd like me to make a digital version of you (certain school colors, message on chalkboard, etc.), I will make one for $10. Contact me at cognitivegamesforstudents@gmail.com for

This is an exciting game for two players! It is played like "Connect Four". Students need to get four in a row to win. You will need some type of markers (like buttons or checkers) and a spinner or 12 sided die. Great for younger students who are working on their addition doubles!

Here's a quick and easy game I use that is colorful and fun for students. Take the boring out of worksheets and assessments by playing "Treasure Hunter"! I bought plastic jewels from the Dollar Store and use them as the gem prizes for this game. Roll the dice, answer a question from a worksheet (or material of your choice), land on a gem space and collect gems as you work your way around the board. The player with the most gems at the end wins!

About the store

Experience

I taught 3rd Grade in Virginia for 16 years. During that time, I worked with children with learning disabilities in an inclusion setting as well as gifted students in a gifted cluster classroom. Currently, I tutor children from Pre-K through 5th grade in Newport Beach, California. I can be reached at cogslearning@gmail.com if you are interested in online or in person tutoring.

Teaching style

I believe learning should be fun! Children retain best when their emotions are connected to their learning experience. What better way to learn than by playing games? I'm also a firm believer that teachers need to engage students through their senses as much as possible. Games provide great visuals as well as kinesthetic and auditory reinforcement.

My own education history

I graduated from Freed- Hardeman University with a BS in Elementary Education. Also, I have an LD endorsement from Old Dominion University and a Gifted Endorsement form the University of Virginia.
