Around the World Adding Like Fractions With Regrouping Game (Online)

Many of my students are often confounded by improper fractions in their answers! "Around the World" is a great way to review adding like fractions where the answer is an improper fraction (greater than a whole). It also reviews converting improper fractions to mixed numbers. A great way to practice subtracting those tricky fractions! My students like to work "Millionaire-style" and enjoy using their "phone a friend", "eliminate a choice", and "ask for a hint" options! I'm including a blank question card and Millionaire worksheet so that you can also make your own "Millionaire" game. Enjoy!

Experience

I taught 3rd Grade in Virginia for 16 years. During that time, I worked with children with learning disabilities in an inclusion setting as well as gifted students in a gifted cluster classroom. Currently, I tutor children from Pre-K through 5th grade in Newport Beach, California. I can be reached at cogslearning@gmail.com if you are interested in online or in person tutoring.

Teaching style

I believe learning should be fun! Children retain best when their emotions are connected to their learning experience. What better way to learn than by playing games? I'm also a firm believer that teachers need to engage students through their senses as much as possible. Games provide great visuals as well as kinesthetic and auditory reinforcement.

My own education history

I graduated from Freed- Hardeman University with a BS in Elementary Education. Also, I have an LD endorsement from Old Dominion University and a Gifted Endorsement form the University of Virginia.
