My students love these puzzles! Their faces glow with pride as they tell their parents they are "doing algebra"! This set includes 3 levels of puzzles: page 1 has basic multiplication, addition, and subtraction, page 2 has basic division, multiplication, addition, and subtraction, and page 3 has multiplication, addition, and subtraction of decimals. Set your students up for success as they "follow the clues" to solve for a variable!

My students needed practice with subtracting fractions with regrouping, so I made this riddle sheet to help make it more fun. Straightforward, to the point practice helps so much with retention. I plan on making more of these in the future, so stay tuned! Hope this sheet helps your students, too!

Stop, Thief! Adding Like Fractions (sums more than 1) Detective Puzzles

Want a fun way to practice adding like fractions with regrouping? These puzzles are solved like "Clue", where students solve problems to eliminate suspects to stop the thief! I've included converting from mixed to improper fractions, adding like common fractions, and adding mixed like fractions puzzles to help reinforce these difficult concepts. These would work well online as well as in class (I've used them for both). My students love solving the cases and are improving their skills quickly!

I use this quiz as a tool to find out what my students have retained and what they need to review for decimals. It covers place value, basic identification, values, rounding decimals, word form, comparing and ordering decimals, addition and subtraction of decimals, multiplication and division of decimals, and decimal- fraction conversions. It is a great way to review the basics!

Experience

I taught 3rd Grade in Virginia for 16 years. During that time, I worked with children with learning disabilities in an inclusion setting as well as gifted students in a gifted cluster classroom. Currently, I tutor children from Pre-K through 5th grade in Newport Beach, California. I can be reached at cogslearning@gmail.com if you are interested in online or in person tutoring.

Teaching style

I believe learning should be fun! Children retain best when their emotions are connected to their learning experience. What better way to learn than by playing games? I'm also a firm believer that teachers need to engage students through their senses as much as possible. Games provide great visuals as well as kinesthetic and auditory reinforcement.

My own education history

I graduated from Freed- Hardeman University with a BS in Elementary Education. Also, I have an LD endorsement from Old Dominion University and a Gifted Endorsement form the University of Virginia.
