How to Steal a Dog Final Project
This final project is meant to be done at the end of the How to Steal a Dog novel study. It asks students to take on two different perspectives: Georgina and Willy, throughout the story. Students are asked to write diary entries about five different events in the novel through both characters perspectives. This document includes directions and an organizer for students to use before delving into their full project.

Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry Character Quilt
This project takes on the incredibly descriptive nature of Mildred D. Taylor's writing. This assignment asks students to pick a character and create a quilt square that represents them based on the descriptions of them in the story. This project comes together so beautifully when it's done. The students are able to be creative and artistic, or the squares can be simple and concise. However they work best is what this project asks of them.

A Handful of Stars Novel Study

This is a final project for the book All American Boys. They are given different themes from the book, such as bigotry, racism, determination, the importance of family, etc... to choose

All American Boys Vocabulary
This vocabulary assignment is. based on All American Boys and provides students with the words as well as response questions for them. Students are asked to use the words in context by answering questions so that you, as the teacher, know if they truly understand the vocabulary. For example, a couple of the words are "impromptu" and "deliberate," so one of the questions to answer is, "Can impromptu actions be done in a deliberate manner?"

This final project for Al Capone Does My Shirts speaks to students creative thinking. It's a collage project based on the symbols and characters of the story. Students focus 5 different symbols, find or draw images, and use quotes from the book to show their importance. Attached is also an outline for an accompanying paragraph to explain what they've created.

Perspectives in Literature Novel Studies
This bundle includes novel units for 3 different books: How to Steal a Dog, by Barbara O'Connor, Confessions of an Imaginary Friend, by Michelle Cuevas, and Rooftoppers, by Katherine Rundell. These novels show a variety of perspectives on childhood and give students a glimpse into three very different lifestyles. These can be done as full class read alouds or literature circles. Everything is scaffolded and broken down into pieces for all different level students.

About the store
Experience
I have taught 5th and 6th grade English and Social Studies, both separately and together as "Humanities" and a myriad of different creative writing classes focused on specific types of stories such as mystery.
Teaching style
I believe students learn best when they can be creative and have access to information in the way they feel most comfortable and are most successful. All of my assignments are able to be modified to meet students where they are and can be differentiated for specific needs. I'm a big believer in graphic organizers, outlining, planning and breaking work down into steps, especially written assignments. I absolutely love reading and sharing books with my students, whether their own independent reading or our class novels.
My own education history
I went to Goucher College and received a BA in English and Secondary Education. I then went to Bank Street College for graduate school and have a masters in Elementary and Special Education.
Additional biographical information
While teaching English is what I love, what's more important to me as a teacher is helping students learn about themselves, gain confidence, and feel successful. Above all I want them to be kind to each other and to themselves. I try to choose books and create assignments that help them learn about the world around them as well as who they are. My goal is help make my students a bit more well rounded and arm them with skills and love.
