Grocery Store Flyer - Sorting Activity

You'll need to have grocery store weekly circulars for this activity. I save the ones I get in the mail each week and bring them to school so I always have a stockpile. Students each get a grocery store flyer. They cut & paste items to fit each category. They will need to write the cost next to it and figure out the total cost for each category. Depending on the students and ability levels, I may allow them to use calculators for this. I like this activity because students have to de

What's in Your Wallet?

Students go from station to station to practice their money skills. At each station, students get a new wallet. First, they have to count the money in their wallet. Then, they have to determine how much change they will get back. There are three levels of stations for this activity: stations for dollar amounts only, dollars and/or coins to $20, and dollars and coins to $100. I have included a sheet with the money for each station. There is an answer key for every set of 10 stations. Sometimes,

Vocational Work Task - Money Packaging

I use this as an independent work station for my students to practice their money skills. Their job is to take any card, select the appropriate coins and/or bills, and insert them all into an envelope for checking later. To make this accessible for my lowest students, they have a coin amounts sheet, available in this download, to help them work on coin identification and amounts. I have play money that I use, but I have included money that you can print out if needed. Print as many sheets as

This activity works best with the larger stores, such as home improvement stores and department stores. I have a separate activity that I use for the grocery store flyers.

I like to use this activity for independent work when I unexpectedly have to stop teaching (need to talk to someone, handle a behavior, etc.). This activity works best with the weekly circulars I get in the mail every week. The larger stores, such as home improvement stores and department stores, work best with the price ranges. I have a separate activity that I use for the grocery store flyers. This activity works on the skill of matching a monetary amount to a range (i.e. $19.99 falls in the

Experience

Teaching style

I love integrating technology into my lessons as much as possible. I try to touch on as many learning styles as possible in each lesson.

My own education history

I attended Saint Anselm College and majored in psychology. I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts degree and started working with adults with disabilities. While working with them, I realized my favorite part of my job was educating. I continued working full time and attended Southern New Hampshire University to earn my Master's Degree in Education K-8 and Special Education PreK-12.

Additional biographical information

I have a rescue dog, who is my whole world. Adopt don't shop!
