I am a gringa with a Master's in English and excellent writing and organizational skills. I minored in Spanish and studied abroad in college. After grad school, I moved to Mexico to teach English for 2 years, where I met my husband. We moved to the U.S. in 2015 and I have been teaching Spanish in NC ever since.

El pronóstico del tiempo - Spanish weather forecast listening activity
This is a listening activity on the topic of weather. Students look at a map of an imaginary country that shows the weather conditions in each town. They listen to a forecast and decide which towns are being described. The zip file includes the handout with the image for the students to look at, the audio script and answer key, and the audio. The audio is very clear and slower than regular Spanish. Good for level 1 classes!

Gustar + nouns (singular and plural) sentence writing worksheet
This is for a level I Spanish class, right after introducing gustar + nouns. It uses pictures to provide nouns for the students to write sentences using gustar and encantar.

Spanish numbers 0-100 crossword puzzle with math equations
This is a crossword puzzle with 21 clues. Each clue is a math problem in Spanish (for example, veinticinco + siete). Students solve the problems and then write the answer into the puzzle in Spanish. This requires them to both understand and produce numbers in Spanish! Key included.

¿Como es el clima en el hemisferio sur? - Spanish weather scavenger hunt
This is a great activity to help your students discover the fascinating fact that the seasons are “flipped” in the southern hemisphere. It also gets them using weather vocabulary and writing sentences about the weather in Spanish. I would recommend using this at the end of a unit on weather in Spanish I.
In this activity, students choose a capital city of a Spanish-speaking country in South America. Then, they compare the weather in that city to the weather in their city. It leads them through

El dormitorio de(l)/la profesor/a - listening/reading activity about a bedroom
This download includes a nice picture of a real bedroom, labeled with numbers. Students must label the items, then listen to the teacher read a description of the bedroom. As they listen they check their list and identify items that are not on it. After listening they answer questions, then they are given a copy of what was read to check themselves. You can use the picture of the bedroom for other activities - I also include a version without numbers for your use.

This Spanish project can be used with a unit on food. It offers three different options for students to select based on their strengths and how many people they want to work with. The three options are:

Extra is a great way to practice listening comprehension in a fun and engaging manner! I find that my students become invested in the show and want to know what happens in subsequent episodes. The main part of these viewing activities is in ENGLISH, though they do include small activities in Spanish. This means you can use them in Spanish I. It also makes them non-threatening to the students, and it allows them to have context for what is happening. You can use them at any point in the semester

This is a cross section of a house drawn by my husband. It has many rooms and each room has many objects. You can use it throughout your house/furniture unit for a quiz, test, writing, or speaking activity.

Vamos de Compras - Comprehensive 3 part project!
This is a 3 part project spanning multiple class sessions. It familiarizes students with shopping vocabulary and gives them an authentic reason to use the preterite and direct object pronouns. It can be used with any curriculum, but it pairs nicely with Realidades chapters 7A and 7B. The parts of the project are:

A crossword puzzle to review the days and months in Spanish, as well as the additional vocabulary: Hoy, Ayer, Manana. All clues except for those three are in Spanish. Some clues are written as a "puzzle" such as: "Ayer fue martes. Hoy es ____." Great practice for the vocabulary!

Dos Chicos Reading - Soy + adjectives & Gustar + verbs
This is a level I Spanish reading where 2 boys describe themselves. They use soy + adjectives and me gusta/no me gusta + verbs. Students then have to complete tasks to show their comprehension, such as filling out information about the boys and identifying pictures of the activities they mentioned.

Reading - Travel journal of trip to Mexico with Questions
This is a reading we created. It consists of 5 journal entries in SPANISH of a trip through Mexico. Then, it has comprehension questions in ENGLISH to help the students get through the reading.
This would work with any curriculum, but it pairs nicely with Realidades 1, chapter 8A. It is similar to the Peru reading on pg 390, so you could use one in class and one as a test reading, or just get extra practice reading in class!

Spanish Numbers Tic-Tac-Toe - 16 games!
This product includes 4 tic tac toe sheets, each with 4 games, for a total of 16 games. I generally teach 0-31 first so that they can talk about their ages and the date, so this product has 2 sheets for 0-31, then 2 sheets for 0-100. The first sheet of each section simply requires them to look at the number in Spanish and write its numerical representation. The second sheet requires them to solve a simple equation (addition and subtraction only) in Spanish and then write the answer in Spanish. T

Teaching style
I believe in a proficiency-based teaching style, aligned with the Common Core standards.
I teach at a school in a low-income area. We have limited resources and many of my students are below grade level in English, so teaching them Spanish is a challenge. All the materials I develop take these factors into account.
