The "hands-on" activities in this unit cover the 3 categories of geometric instruction: 1.Geometry shapes, their components (sides,angles faces, etc.), their properties, and categorization based on those properties. 2.Composing and decomposing geometric shapes. 3.Spatial relations and spatial structuring Activity types: 1.Sorting 2.Making Shapes 3.Composing and Decomposing Shapes 4.Segmenting equal shares (fractional parts of a shape)

This is a short “hands-on” unit that lays the foundation for working with 3-D shapes in the upper grades. The exploration of 3-D shapes enables students to realize that 3-D shapes are not flat, have faces, edges and corners.
