About the store
Eclectic defines me. My experience ranges from helping first offenders in the Florida prison system earn their GED’s to teaching a college course on the anatomy of aging. I’ve taught at a public high school, been a trainer for a major pharmaceutical company, and developed multi-media educational materials used by the Australian government. In the 1990s I began training family and professional caregivers in the art of communicating effectively with people with dementia. That evolved into a focus on wellbeing in aging that further evolved into developing hundreds of trivia quizzes, word games, and imaginative exercises to positively stimulate our minds. While some of those exercises are aimed specifically at the long-term memories of older adults, hundreds of them work equally well with children and young adults.

It covers poetry forms such as limericks, acrostics, riddles, haiku and Senryu, and demystifies iambic pentameter. It discusses “bad poetry” with Edgar Guest as a candidat

How Many Words Can You Make from Spring Flowers?

People who create word puzzles in which the goal is to make as many words as possible from another word or phrase will frequently put the words in a circle, because that tends to expand creativity by taking away the visual limits of seeing the word in a line. Based on this principle, “The Clock Game” was developed by ElderGames using one letter for each of the 12 numbers on a clock. Teaching style

I am known for being both practical and lighthearted. When I train staff in long-term care, whether through live webinars, in-person workshops, or online courses, I measure my success by the number of instantly usable ideas participants leave with. I want their behavior to change. But I also believe fun fuels the brain. Relaxed learners learn more. My goal is also always to build connections – both in the brain as students learn something new, and with one another as they interactively discuss the topic.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I am the 2019 recipient of the “Make a Difference Award” for the Association of Applied and Therapeutic Humor (AATH)
