I have been a special education teacher for the past twenty-five years. I am a very strong supporter of creating rich educational experiences for all students. However, students need access to instructionally appropriate materials in order to benefit from such an environment. I have always been frustrated by the lack of resources available to special education teachers who are supporting students in such rigorous educational environments. How Do I Pay? Choosing the correct denomination to pay for purchases task cards
Determining the correct denomination to pay for a purchase is an essential skill in math. When we go to a store, we need to know how much money to give the cashier to pay for our items. This involves understanding the different values of coins and bills. These task cards ask students to round to the next dollar to aid them in recognizing which denomination they should use to pay for a purchase.

Compound Words
Getting older students to work towards improving their spelling skills is no easy feat. By the time they reach middle school, struggling readers and writers have spent countless hours trying to memorize spelling words for their weekly tests just to forget them days later! I have always been a fan of Patricia Cunningham’s Phonics They Use and Month by Month Phonics books. One activity I learned from Ms. Cunningham’s work that my students are particularly fond of is the study of compound words.

My own education history
I have a BA in history and a MS in Special Education. I am certified to teach special education K-12 and Social Studies 5-12 .
Additional biographical information
Much of the work I produce is the result of a challenge I face with one of my own students, even my children! I love to problem solve and collaborate. If you have a particular challenge in your own classroom, I would love to lend my expertise!
