Halloween Time of Death Activity

This activity provides an intro to time of death determination, rigor mortis, algor mortis, and livor mortis while solving a fun Halloween themed mystery. It also includes a fiber analysis (no prior knowledge needed) and a logic puzzle. I used this activity for my Forensic Science Club but it would also work well as an intro to time of death in a Forensic Science class.

Twinning: Mole-Mole Stoichiometry

Not just your typical worksheet! Students will work in pairs. Each student in a pair will have different mole to mole stoichiometry calculations to complete but their answers for each will be the same. Students will need to compare answers and when they have different answers they will need to help each other find errors to know who is right. Comes with an answer key.

Atomic Scientists Escape Room

Are you tired of the same boring way of teaching the scientists that contributed to the atomic model? If so, this activity is for you! Students will navigate to a Google website where they will follow clues to find Schrodinger's cat and a code by meeting with the following scientists: Democritus, Dalton, Thomson, Rutherford, Bohr, and Schrodinger. As they follow the tasks, they will learn about each scientist and can record their notes on the Student Scientist Notes packet. Some clues will take

Eyewitness Questioning Activity

This activity splits your class into investigators and eyewitnesses of a crime to give students insight into the challenges of witness testimony in solving crimes from both perspectives. This interactive activity will have your students talking! This is a great intro activity to eyewitness accounts in a Forensic Science class. I used it for a Forensic Science Club activity.
Preview of Science Weekly Planner

Science Weekly Planner

A science-themed weekly planner to show your students what they will learn that week. This planner helps both me and my students stay organized. I put the planner on the board every class period to remind myself what we need to do that day. Students are able to clearly see their assignments. I also post this on Google Classroom at the beginning of each week so that students who are absent can see what they missed.

Thanksgiving Chemistry

Looking for something to do in chemistry in the days leading up to Thanksgiving? This worksheet teaches students about the basic chemistry of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. It covers simple chemistry topics and involves easy unit conversions, graph/table analysis, and even has a CER response! It's perfect to keep students' brains moving while not overwhelming them before break! No prep and answer key included!
Preview of Valence Electrons & Common Ion Charge Activity

Valence Electrons & Common Ion Charge Activity

Don't just tell students the number of valence electrons and the atom's favorite charges - make them figure it out! In this hands-on inquiry activity, students build Bohr Models of atoms to find patterns on the periodic table about valence electrons. Then, students deposit or withdraw electrons from the "Electron Bank" to give the atom a full outer shell and determine the charge that atom takes as an ion based on its number of valence electrons.
Preview of Electromagnetic Spectrum CER

Electromagnetic Spectrum CER

Hit the NGSS HS-PS4-4 standard: "Evaluate the validity and reliability of claims about how different frequencies of electromagnetic radiation interact with matter" with this lesson! Students choose between two short articles (one about cell phones and one about tanning beds. Using their knowledge of the electromagnetic spectrum, students evaluate the validity and reliability of the claim using CER method. Ready to go worksheet for students or editable to make it your own!

Chemistry Choice Board - Beginning of the Year

This virtual choice board offers 4 different assignments for students to choose from. These are easy, independent assignments that are done on a Chromebook or school-issued laptop. These are especially great for a sub plan! The 4 options include a reading and response about the importance of studying chemistry, a creative assignment about a chemistry related career, a video and worksheet about growth mindsets, and a visual exploration of several elements and their uses. These activities require
Preview of Thanksgiving Color by Ion Charge

Thanksgiving Color by Ion Charge

This worksheet has chemistry students color the turkey based on the charge the elements take as ions. Students should use a periodic table to determine the charge the elements take and then use the color key on the worksheet to color the appropriate color. This is a great activity for the day before Thanksgiving Break to practice automaticity of determining ion charges.

The Best Game - Holiday Edition

Looking for a fun game before winter break? Look no further. My high school students LOVE this game and I’m sure the littles would too! This game is a take on The Best Game where students compete in challenges. This version's challenges are holiday/winter themed. Which student can build the tallest marshmallow snowman? Who is the best snowball thrower? Find out by playing this interactive game! The following materials are needed to purchase: Marshmallows - large not mini, Oreos, print out of pa

Superhero Google Slides Theme

These Superhero themed Google Slides are fully editable and offer the designs in 3 color themes (but, remember that you can edit them yourself if you want other colors!). I used these slides for a Superhero Themed Summer Camp but they would also work for classroom slides to make things more exciting for the kiddos. These also contain diverse superheroes to show our kids that anyone can be a hero!
Preview of Gas Laws Challenge

Gas Laws Challenge

This lesson/assignment fits best after completing the gas laws unit so long as you have also covered stoichiometry. This is a challenging data analysis assignment that I would use for practice and/or extra credit in an Honors or AP level Chemistry Course. I use this as an open-notes group assessment for a dual enrollment chemistry class. It is an excellent challenge, causing them to really have to think and analyze information.

My Superhero Identity

This worksheet is a great way to get to know your students in a SUPER fun way! I used this at a Superhero themed summer camp but it is perfect as an icebreaker activity.

Letter of Recommendation Template

Want an easy way to get those letter of recommendations for your students done? I typically get asked to write ~25 letters of recommendation each year and using this template has been a huge time saver for me! The template has multiple paragraph options. You choose the qualities that fit your student best and simply follow the color coding to input your student's information. The document has additional recommendations for ways to further personalize the letter that are optional.

The Best Game

Great end-of-the-year game to enjoy the last days with your students. Students compete in silly competitions. My high schoolers LOVE this game but it would be fun (but perhaps chaotic) with the littles. I heard of this game long ago but this gives my take on it and provides many ideas of challenges. Can be adjusted for your grade level.
