About the store
For someone who is not currently employed as a teacher (I'm actually an Engineer), I seem to spend quite a bit of time in front of a class. My kids are in grade 3 and SK, and I've done various presentations in their classrooms, from an introduction to the solar system, to demonstrations of simple machines. I also help out in some other classes in the school, taking groups of students to do science experiments, math assessments, or anything else that's needed. At various times, I've tutored small groups in math or reading during breaks or after school. Basically, I like to pitch in wherever I'm needed!

Project Planning sheet

Most homework we give students is to be handed in a day or two later. When taking on a project with a deadline that may be several days or weeks away, students can easily fall into the trap of thinking 'I have ages. I don't need to start it yet'. They can also be overwhelmed by the amount they have to do, or forget certain details by not reading the full instructions carefully. (My own daughter is ADHD-Inattentive, and I tear my hair out when she tells me she's finished something, but she's

Measurement: That's Impossible!

If you told a class that your sister was 3 metres tall, would they believe you? This set of statements about measurements is intended to help classes consider what's reasonable and what's not. They're intended to be discussed as a class, rather than worked on individually, and provide a great focus for discussion. We spend a lot of time teaching measurement in math and, even with our best intentions, students can sometimes feel bogged down in numbers and abstract concepts. These sheets are

CSDAX007 - Add a Letter

This is a challenge based on the game of Scrabble. In Scrabble, when you add a letter to the beginning or end of another word, it is called a 'hook'. e.g. Starting with the word AT, various letters can be added to the beginning, to make CAT, FAT, HAT etc., or E can be added to the end to make ATE. This page includes several examples, with starting words ranging from 2 to 4 letters. The back of the sheet has space to add other words. I have deliberately chosen NOT to include an answer key fo

Teaching style

I'm very much a 'stand-at-the-front-of-the-class-and-explain-stuff' kind of teacher. I like to interact and have the students ask questions and lead the direction of the discussion to where they're interested. Almost any subject can lead off in six different directions, but all of them help to give students a deeper 'grasp' of the whole subject, rather than determining in advance which specific details to focus on. When kids really understand a subject, they don't need to worry about memorizing details because the details fall into place on top of the foundation of understanding.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Kids enjoy my teaching and understand when I explain things. That's good enough for me!

My own education history

Instead of studying teaching my whole time at university, I started by getting my Engineering Degree, then did my teacher training after that. After a year or two of teaching high school math, I chose Engineering as my career. I just do the teaching for fun!

Additional biographical information

I love Teachers Pay Teachers! I've spent so much time writing worksheets, and it's good to now be able to see if others have already done something I can use, or if I can share mine so other teachers don't have to duplicate my time. Win-win!
