About the store
I've been teaching for 13 years in British Columbia, Canada. I've taught everywhere from 2nd to 9th Grade, as well as learning support. I teach all subject areas, and integrate Science and Social Studies into my Language Arts curriculum where ever possible. I'm most passionate about Science and the inquiry skills students can gain from going deeply into a topic. Science is inclusive. Everyone can be engaged in science regardless of their income, gender, or culture. Science is all around us every day in so many ways. I've worked on a Regional Science Fair committee for eight years, as the Ethics Coordinator and part of the Activities Committee. I've also ran a school based fair numerous times.

Teaching style

I believe that active learning is essential to student engagement. My lessons are well-planned, hands-on and usually integrate more than one subject area. I feel strongly that students should be taught about their brain: how it works and why. In my classroom I teach "Brainology" which is all about the brain, a growth mindset and self regulation strategies. It is not uncommon to hear my students speaking about their own learning needs and regulating their own focus by adjusting their location in the classroom or using a fidget tool.
