This is a template I created to look exactly like a facebook page. Your students will never have to access facebook to create a realistic looking facebook page. It could be used virtually in any content area. It should be a really fun way for students to create short research reports on any individual. This assignment will get the at
This packet teaches students how to search effectively online. I walks through why to use special characters when searching as well as how to narrow search results effectively. Students have opportunities to compare results from various search engines. There are tips for effective online research to yield the most relevant results. There are also pages dedicated to the actual research that will help students to identify information that will be needed when creating bibliography/ reference pages.

This is a worksheet that guides the students through their research of an author. This worksheet goes well with any book study. The worksheet goes beyond the typical biography questions and asks the students to dig a little deeper. It also asks the students to try to find out how to contact the author. This a video that can be used in a flipped classroom or as a stand alone lesson. This video takes students through the design of a graphic organizer for a five paragraph essay. The video is simple yet engaging. The students will be able to tackle any prompt without the stress of "OH MY GOODNESS! I CAN'T WRITE FIVE PARAGRAPHS!" This video teaches students how to pre-write one paragraph at a time. I have also included a copy of the graphic organizer with the video.
This is a European explorer research project. It is designed to allow the student to take on the role of the explorer. The students will research their explorer, create a flag for the country under which they sailed, a "scrap book" or "travel log" detailing their journey, and finally, they will write an actually research paper about their explorer. Because research tends to be difficult for young students, I created a research guide to help students figure out what information they will need to
This is an author study that allows students to choose an author that they would like to read. The students will create a biography for their author, poster presentation, three synopsis/ summaries, a paper on the similarities between the author's works, and a form filled out about each book that they read. This unit takes about 6 to 8 weeks to complete but it covers over 60 state standards. Throughout the course of this unit, I have seen my non-readers latch on to an author and actual become ver
This is a fun way of showing students the basic elements of a paragraph. It uses several graphic organizers to help students structure a paragraph. This document is "Top Secret" and is broken up into different "Missions" that the students have to work through. Each mission builds a certain skill in the paragraph writing process: Main Idea, Supporting Details, and a Conclusion. The document has a good balance of graphic organizers and drill and practice. When I used this with my students, I saw t
This is a behavior management program that encourages positive behavior instead of focusing on the negative behaviors. You, as a teacher, are still able to deal with the negative behaviors with whatever consequences your school policy has determined. This program encourages students to behave in a positive manner because there is a possibility of a reward for doing so. It is very difficult to instill positive characteristics in students when they are not given a reason other than "you're suppose

This is a step by step guide for students to use when editing a peer's paper. This guide will allow students to effectively look at a peer's paper and help them to identify the things that need to be changed. Bring your students' world to the forefront of creating a biography on literary, scientific, historical or mathematical individuals. This is extremely fun for the students and they actually forget that they are doing research. The kids have a chance to be creative while communicating their understanding of the individual. This is a sure win with your students.
This is a handout that you can use to accompany any literature that you may want to use in your class. It can be used in multiple subject areas.
