This is a letter I send home to parents whose students have neglected to turn in a book from my classroom library. This letter would not work for a school library or any library that charges late fees. I use this letter to request that the parent help the child locate the book or replace it with another middle school level book. This document is editable (Microsoft Office 07 and later) so that you can take out my name in the signature. You can also edit it to say elementary level books if that i
This is a set of two posters to describe what students will achieve in the ELA classroom. The posters are made to be hung together vertically, but they can also be hung separately. These are digital files (JPEGs and PDFs).

We use this graphic organizer in class to track the plot of the books the students read both individually and as a class. It helps them make their understanding of rising action, climax, and falling action more concrete.
I set up my No Homework Binder with A-Z tabs. Each student has a page like the one here. They flip to their page and add the assignment and their reason for not completing it when necessary. Because each student has his or her own page, I can pull a particular student's page for parent conferences or communications.
Based on the ARI/Strategic Teaching strategy of having students rate their knowledge of vocabulary before defining and working with the words, this editable trifold allows you to set students up to monitor their own learning. I often use this as a beginning activity and an after activity in one lesson when introducing new vocabulary. It also works incredibly well as a study tool before the test. Edit for any unit! Glue in interactive notebooks or use separately!
