Do you need students to practice the skills assessed with the DRA or DRA-2? I created this document as a way to instruct students of the components of the DRA assessment and fell in love with how easy it is to incorporate into most reading lessons. The Reading Response document asks for students to use literal and inferential skills in addition to metacognition while reading a student-selected or teacher-selected passage.
This study guide was created to help students prepare for the chapter test for America's Past - Chapter One. It aligns nicely with the chapter assessment!
The Westing Game Detective Log helps students "crack the case" while reading the mystery novel. Students record mystery genre elements while interacting with the Ellen Raskin novel. This booklet works great as a supplement to a novel study as a whole class, small group literature circles, or for teacher-read alouds. Student engagement increases when they are embarking through the novel as a detective!
This study guide was created to help students prepare for the chapter test for America's Past - Chapter Two. It aligns nicely with the chapter assessment!
Are you looking for a way to measure what students know about Newton's Laws of Motion? This download can be used as both a pre- and post-test after instructing a unit on the laws of motion. Students come up with their own real-world examples that demonstrate the laws in addition to explaining the three laws in their own words.
This assessment rubric is aligned to CCSS for 5th grade Listening and Speaking standards. I found it useful when having my students listen to others' presentations in class. I had no other way to assess their listening/speaking work so I created this document. A similar one is available for 6th graders.
Students use the website http://bensguide.gpo.gov/3-5/government/branches.html to find information about the state and national branches of government in effort to prepare for a poster project.
I created this activity sheet to help hold students accountable for praticing spelling words and incorporated it into the Word Work portion of our ELA block. Students choose a variety of activities that meet multiple intelligences. With more choice, student engagement increased with use of this document.
The best reading log! With this log, students record their at-home reading and provide a rating along with the reason they chose the reading material. A useful log that won't bog down students; it will help readers track their reading!
The scientific method is a key set of procedures students must know at the elementary level. This quiz allows teachers to assess student knowledge of the steps. Used as both a pre- and post-test, students are asked to list the steps in order and provide their own explanation of the step. This allows teachers to see if students actually understand the concept of each step in the process rather than relying on memorization skills.
