This background research provides links for and a structure for students to understand how light waves, the eye, and the brain work together to allow us to see objects. This is very helpful for NextGen Science Standard- 4PS42.
Students will research an animal to learn about what attributes they possess related to their senses and how those senses support survival, growth, behavior, or reproduction. This project includes organizers for research and a rubric.
Students will work together to write a classroom constitution which outlines expectations for their classroom. This could be used as a beginning or end of government unit. Students must transfer their knowledge of the rights and responsibilities of citizens as well as demonstrate their understanding of how the United States government operates.

In this math challenge, students must design their own amusement park using addition and subtraction skills. They must add up the cost of rides (up through 5 digit numbers) as well as account for discounts and fees that come with each ride!
This fractions assessment contains a wide variety of PARCC like problems which assess all of the Common Core fractions standards. It also contains differentiated sections which students can take based on their MAPs data.
This math challenge requires students to design a new business district for a downtown city. As they add dimensions to their businesses, they must calculate the area of each business and stay under a specified budget. They then must write a letter to the mayor of their city defending their business plan!
Note: This is specific for Hagerstown, MD, but please feel free to modify it for your town!
