About the store
My name is Mrs. Dean, and this is the Dean's List! I only sell material I have taught in my own classroom, so it has all been tested! In my 15 years of experience teaching ELA, I have grown to love creating my own assignments and lessons. Hope you enjoy! I have taught inner city high school for the past 15 years, but recently switched over to teach virtually (it's amazing!). My experience spans 9-12 grade and all different subjects/abilities. Over the years I have taught ELL, SPED inclusion classes, behavioral interventionist classes, AP Lang, creative writing, dual enrollment courses, and everything in between.

This helps students understand how to summarize, paraphrase, and direct quote their sources within their own research papers. There is an accompanying powerpoint to review as a class before working on this assignment. Before doing this assignment students should have a working knowledge of citations and in-text citations. I have created citations for articles I found for a sample research paper about cell phones in school. Students are given the citation and a paragraph from the source, and the

Counterargument Practice for Research Papers

This worksheet allows students to practice with the art of counterargument. I've used this with my AP Language students, but also assigned it for some honors classes that were ready to enter into that. Counter argument is hard because if not done well, it can make you sound wishy-washy. I've found that the more practice we can get with it, the better they are. This allows them that practice. The worksheet contains: Detailed Activity Instructions Students are given a claim, they must identify a

When class was in a "writing workshop" mode, I started classes with this powerpoint. After students have finished their research and their outline, sometimes it's hard to know where to begin. This powerpoint gives quick and easy steps to get started, and it encourages them. Starting is often the hardest part. Kids need to hear that just because it's hard doesn't mean they can't do it. Also, this is FREE because I just don't think you should pay money for a resource that doesn't take a whole clas

Teaching style

I believe in high-rigor, and high-support. All of my lessons are created to help students reach higher order thinking no matter their starting point.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I was teacher of the year the year I taught GOVERNMENT....wild, huh? how did that happen? it's a long story that mostly involves the teacher shortage in low income schools BUT it proved to me I can teach anything. Our scores rose by 17% that year....they tried to keep my in Government, but man. Shakespeare was beckoning me back to English.

My own education history

I graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelor's degree in Secondary English Education.

Additional biographical information

I love my husband, my four kids, running, coffee, podcasts, and Jesus.
