Hands-On Science: Canned Constellations
Overview:
Hands-on mid-level science activity allowing students to create models of 16 popular constellations using cans or tubes made out of film canisters or toilet paper rolls with tin foil.
Stencils of the 16 constellations are provided and ready-to-use, with dots representing the location of the stars within the constellation.

Hands-On Science: Polishing Pennies
Awesome hands-on science experiment that explores chemical change using very easy-to-find household materials. Students will try to clean pennies by dipping them in various liquids and find out which ones work best at polishing them up. Students will also discover if the liquids they are using are acids or bases, and what effect it has on cleaning the pennies.

Fun creative writing activity for the beginning of class fit for a wide range of ability. Phunny Photos include 10 hilarious pictures accompanied with 10 writing prompts. The students will take a minute to look over the picture and talk about it with one another. Then they will write their thoughts about it, using the prompts if necessary. I've learned so many hands-on experiments and activities over the years that I wanted to break them down and reformat them into practical classroom use. It was always funny observing students when they would be doing one of the programs and how much excitement and enthusiasm they had knowing that they probably didn't act this way every time the were learning. I definitely used to be the student that "hated school," but always jumped on any opportunity to get involved in an activity or classroom discussion, and I think plenty of students are like me.
