Resistant writers sometimes need a little push to get going, I have made cue cards for the writer to place in order and add details as they go. From the beginning writer to the struggling middle school student, the cue cards are a great way to get the student going and to self check. Make an extra copy of the cue cards in order for self check. After teaching Science for 5 years in middle school, I have found that having the students make a simple form for most labs is more productive in class. I allow students to attach paper as needed. Simplifying the lab gives me more time to walk around and give them a grade for the day. Students suggested that I simplify my labs and it has made a HUGE difference in what we can accomplish in class.

Every student loves to be recognized by their teacher. Start the school year or semester with a coupon. Some teachers only count the coupon if they are turned in with the assignments.
