Have a low science budget but want some quality lab equipment for your students? I have made detailed plans on how to build the lab equipment yourself with limited tools and supplies. Built from aluminum C channel, these mechanics tracks are designed to work with steel balls and glass marbles of varying sizes. With these tracks your students will be able to conduct experiments for 1D - Kinematics, 2D - Kinematics, 1D Collisions, 2D Collisions as well as Conservation of Energy. A class set of th

Experience

Two years of teaching high school general physics, AP physics, PLTW Principles of Engineering and astronomy. I teach at a school of about 1000 students in south-central Wisconsin. Our school has transitioned to Grading for Learning where we assess standards that are skill based, rather than content based. Our science standards are the NGSS scientific practices.

Teaching style

My focus is on guided inquiry activities that develop skills associated with the NGSS scientific practices. My activities revolve around working together to develop skills in mathematical modeling, graphical analysis, planning and carrying out lab investigations, using models to explain phenomena and problem solving.

My own education history

I began my undergrad at University of Wisconsin - La Crosse pursuing a dual major in Physics and Engineering. Three years into my undergrad, I paused, reflected on my past and looked forward thinking about my future. In high school I spent my summers teaching swim lessons to all ages of children. I brought that interest of teaching and working with youth to college. I then became a lead day camp counselor for the YMCA where I planned field trips for 40 students every day. I've always had an interest for science, especially physics however, it took almost to the end of my undergrad to realize that I had a passion for working with youth. That's when I decided I wanted to be teacher. I took two additional years to complete all my education courses and field/student teaching placements. I graduated with a degree in Physics Education and a minor in Mathematics.
