When teaching decimal operations, we talk a lot about money. In this project students will think about their future selves. They will select a career, find an average annual salary and then use this information to create a budget. In doing so they will practice adding/subtracting/multiplying/dividing with decimals.
Students will use a piece of dubble bubble gum to answer the questions: How much paper is wasted in wrapping dubble bubble gum? How much gum is in each piece of dubble bubble gum? I have 2 versions, one that details every step exactly and one that requires a little more thinking on the students' parts. I have also included an answer sheet, although answers will vary greatly with the actual measuring.
