About the store
I am certified to teach high school math and chemistry. I have taught high school algebra and geometry as well as college chemistry. I have B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in chemistry. Much of my professional career has been as a research scientist; however, I have extensive outreach experience. I am known as "Dr. Ed" at my daughters' elementary school, where I often visit. My science videos were featured as part of a summer program on the Pensacola News Journal's website, and I have Youtube videos on making and using red cabbage indicator.

It uses realistic word problems and pictures to represent various fractions not in lowest terms and to help show the equivalence. It demonstrates equivalence of small-denominator fractions (sixteenths, eighths, quarters, halves) using a bar broken into congruent portions. It contains worked examples and problems for students to work on their own. It can be used as remediation or enrichment. Pr

Teaching style

I believe in extensive experiential learning. However, I also believe we teach by showing, modeling, and explaining. We have to give students opportunities to make mistakes so we can find their errors and we have to let them puzzle over problems so they are ready for answers. I have bits of Montessori, humanist, and constructivist in my style. I believe that writing across the curriculum is critically important and should begin as soon as students can read and write. I like project-based learning, but I believe it needs to be structured and guided so that it does not turn into a craft project.
