Science Lab Report Grading Rubric

This is a rubric I developed early in my career It makes grading lab reports so much easier. Now I'm not a fan of rubrics and don't use them often but this one is a life saver. I have broken the typical lab report into sections each worth a set of points. Each category has criteria that needs to be met. The criteria that I have listed would be the highest level on a tradational rubric. I give them to my students at the start of each lab activity and require them to hand it in when they tur

Ino this day and age we know that documentation is key. No matter how brief the communication or even if there wasn't any, it's always better to be safe than sorry. Email can not be trusted. Too easily hacked and deleted. The only records one can trust are ones they keep. And since this would be part of your teacher notebook and considered your property, you control access to it so u know it can't be modified. Sounds paranoid yes but I have seen things like this happen to several teachers.

Heart/lung structure checklist for heart dissection anatomy and biology classes

This is a checksheet I developed for my biology and anatomy classes. The students worked in groups during the dissection part of the lab. They would label the structures and review the functions. When they were ready I would come over make sure the labels were correct or not and whether or not they learned the function of the structure. These sheets made scoring dissections real easy and provided clear expectations for the students.

About the store

Experience

I have been teaching in the public school system for over 16 years. Running a successful tutoring service for over 25 years. College teaching for 5 years. I have been a science fair coordinator for 10 years and have had many of my students place in the top three. I conduct my own research and stay current with update trends in science and education

Teaching style

I am very hands on and student driven as an instructor. I believe knowledge is important but what you do with that knowledge is even more important. My students directed their own experiments and activities giving them a greater sense of connectedness with the material and their own education.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Several of my students have placed in the top three of the city science fairs with others going onto placing in the state level. My greatest award would have to be the glowing confidence on the faces of my urban school students especially, who realize that they can do science successfully.

My own education history

I currently have a masters in biology with a BS in marine biology. I have a valid CT teaching Certificate and over 30 hrs of education classes. My wide backgroud in science covers the micro to the macro to the living to the extinct. I am currently working towards my PhD in biology/paleontology.
