About the store
I have been in education for over 30 years. I started out teaching science to elementary school level students and continued this for over 10 years. I moved to middle school science and have continued my career teaching a blended science program as well as high school physical science to 8th graders. My career also includes mentoring new teachers, sharing best practices, leading groups of science teachers (as a department leader and as a professional learning committee leader), an academic science coach, and staff developer. I have a special interest in curriculum and instruction and was awarded my EdD in 2023. I am excited to have this opportunity to share what has worked and what is currently working to help my students achieve and become life long critical thinkers.

This is a lab I do with my students in the beginning of the year. I use it to review the scientific method and variables. I show the old commercial first (I find it on the internet) as the motivation.

A fun way to review alleles, Punnett squares, phenotypes and genotypes. The students determine the allele combinations(basic), pheno- and geno- types of a Male and Female monster. Then, they 'flip the coin' to determine the genes of the baby monster. Al the end, they illustrate the Monster Family.

These are a great management tool for science lab activities. Works for a group of 4 or 6 (but 2 children are 'off duty'). Theme is 'Emoji' since my classroom is 100% digital, but the Emoji can work for any classroom. Each activity the students pick a card and that is their responsibility for that period. OR The teacher can assign jobs for that period or time period. You can also print a second copy and hang as a bulletin board with title card attached.

This lab is a great lab to use with upper Middle School students to teacher about variables and the scientific method. Students build a pendulum. Students change the length of the string to see how it affects the number of swings. Students create hypothesis, observations, collect data, graph data and write conclusions. A Power Point is also available to go along with this lab sheet.

This is the power point that goes along with my Pendulum Lab - Lab sheets. It helps to guide the teacher and the students into predictions, inferences, observations, data collection, graphing, concluding, reporting and discussion. The answers to the questions on the Lab Sheet is on the power point.

Teaching style

I believe students need to experience content and not memorize content. Students need to have experiences to build upon future experiences. The classroom should be a learning community where the students are active learners and teachers are coaching them, not instructing them. We experience life on a daily basis and that is what learning is about.
