This is my new lesson plan for my Algebra I class. Last year, I bounced from Algebra I texts to Modules to Khan to Workbooks. I was aggravated and felt I needed more to prepare my students. So this summer, I have found a perfect textbook that has everything I need for Algebra I. The best thing is the kids have a place to go to study for the end of course test. It is an Algebra II textbook. I am only pulling out the content for Algebra I, but the material matches so much better with the needs of

Monomial Simplification a Hands-On Activity with Groups
Algebra I students who have been accelerated in the 8th grade, skip 8th grade math. This content is one they are expected to know but do not, so I have to come up with ways to teach it quickly. The negative exponents are tough. My students usually begin moving everything around the fraction bar, rather than just the negative exponents. This hands-on method helps them experience with paper clips, how only the base with negative exponents move. The answers are given so the students can discuss and
