This attached daily drill includes context clues, inferencing, character traits, main idea, drawing conclusions, prefixes, suffixes, synonyms, antonyms and more that are predicted to be on the Texas STAAR. 2nd Grade Math Benchmark or problem of the day based off of the NEWLY established Texas State TEKS. This file will have increased rigor and most incoming second graders WILL not be able to pass it the first time as the TEKS _just_ changed.
Due to this situation this particular file would be good for:
BOY and MOY Testing third graders to see how prepared they are for the new Texas MATH TEKS.
Second grade BOY to see if students have any of the concepts and what needs to be reviewed.

Have your students measure items around the room using paper clips and then record the data on this chart. Chart is great for lower level students who need visual cues to help them identify what they need to write. Chart can be edited to reflect inches or centimeters.
Practice context clues with your students by using this daily problem. Use of nonsense words in the sentences encourage students to seek out the correct word instead of attributing a false definition to them. This is a great way to teach and practice context clues with grades 1-7.
This is an expanded version of the earlier context clues product. There are seven pages and 42 problems. This would be great for a problem of the day.
Stand Tall Molly Lou Melon Comprehension Test based on STAAR Texas state standards. Questions include summary, character traits, sequencing, and other questions written in the style similar to the STAAR. This book is more simple however so is much better for teaching character traits and then using this test to review what students know while getting them ready for the STAAR.
This product features three sheets of word wall words that are perfect for printing, laminating and putting up on your word wall for students to learn. Basic white cardstock works well for this.
Words in this file include: laugh, elephant, herd, jungle, jump, sad and patchwork
These words can also be used as flashcards or other objects for your centers.

Use of nonsense words in the sentences encourage students to seek out the correct word instead of attributing a false definition to them. This is a great way to teach and practice context clues with grades 1-7. Use the first page to demonstrate and assist the students in the thinking process. "I don't know what this word means. This story helps test vocabulary, cause and effect and students general comprehension when reading a story. This is optimal for grades 3-6 but can be used for 7 or advanced 2nd graders. It is also a good product to use to teach reading strategies.
This page includes four word problems so you can use it as a quick assessment or teach students how to look out for the pitfalls that they might come across when reading them. See the bottom one in the sample to see how difficult it can be. While I recommend it for third grade it would work for upper level second grade and lower level fourth.
Great for STAAR practice!
Worksheet based on the Texas State TEKS for the upcoming STAAR. Great for making sure that students have a firm grasp of fact and opinion. Clearly states what a fact and an opinion are at the top of the page in case the students get confused between the two. Great for LEPs or limited language students because the page contains the definition for them to refer to. This worksheet was used with my LEPs and it made it so they finally understood fact and opinion before the STAAR.
