I love the book Because of Mr. Terrupt. I also have an ongoing poster of dollar words that kids add to as they discover them. However, I feel it's too difficult for them to find them without hints. These are 4 separate half sheets of Dollar Words. Each sheet has ten word on them. The beginning letter and a small hint is provided. I give out one per week and students work on them with extra time. They love it. Simple, fun, ongoing activity to supplement the book. Complete with answer key
Students have problems estimating heights. This project is complete with a suggested single website which they will use to locate information about the skyscrapers of Cleveland. This can be used as a sample to complete together before researching your city's skyscrapers or as a self-directed activity. Students not only report the height in meters and feet, but they become familiar with how many meters/feet make up a floor. The students will also be required to list additional information on
Divide your class into groups, give them a bag of Valentine Candy Hearts, and let them explore. This activity covers several topics like fractions, percents, graphs, line plots, measurement and estimation. It's self directed and fun. Based on common core standards for 3-6 grade.
Simple project to do with Smarties. Students will convert to fraction, then decimal (rounded to nearest hundredth), then percent. We use a geometry template to create the circle graph.
Simple one page sheet to get your students up and measuring with a partner. Students will be required to measure in both metric and customary units to find linear, area and volume measurements in their classroom. Cooperative, hands-on and simple to get them thinking about measurement.
