Stand Tall Guided Reading Questions for each chapter

This test asks students questions about ethos, logos, and pathos in ads, PSAs, and advertising techniques used such as celebrity, deals, and emotion. Check out my free study guide for this test in my store!

This chart helps students characterize the main characters in the novel. I usually have them search for character traits in the text and have them list page numbers in the character columns next to those traits as well.

If you are reading The Diary of Anne Frank (the play version in most textbooks) here are all of the characters' names along with a picture of what they look like. I laminate the pictures (or put them in those plastic protector sheets) and pass them out to the kids each class so they don't forget which part they are playing that day in the play.

In this assignment, students show what they know about natural disasters and non-fiction text features. I read several non-fiction articles with students and showed them youtube clips about 5 different natural disasters while focusing on non-fiction text features. In this culminating assignment for the unit, students analyze information from non-fiction articles and information on the internet to create a one pager assignment about one disaster they choose.

Short 3 question reading review quizzes for 7 chapters in the novel: Ana and Wendell (combined), Leona, Florence, Maricella, Sae Young, and Sam.

I usually use this children's book as a read aloud at the beginning of my persuasive writing unit that I do with my middle schoolers. After reading the book to students, I let them choose one of these 3 mini-projects to evaluate the effectiveness of the pigeon's persuasiveness in the text. Included in the resource are the directions for the three project choices. This resource aligns nicely with teaching ethos/logos/pathos also and asking students which of the pigeon's arguments fall into those

This packet of poems asks students to identify different literary devices in each poem. For example, questions after reading include "What is the tone?" "Where do you see alliteration in the poem" "Which verse has simile?"

This resource includes the poem "On the Subway" and a lesson plan outline for how to use the poem with your class. The focus of the questions included with it is on social class (which lines in the poem bring up issues with social class, etc.).

These comprehension and vocabulary questions go along with each section of Night. The page numbers correlate with the edition our school uses (which has connected readings at the end). If you use a different edition, you can edit the page numbers to suit your needs.
