Brainstorm with the students several places in the U.S. that they would like to visit. Divide students into groups. Then allow 15-20 minutes for the groups to work together and choose their destinations. Remind them to consider time and amount of money they have to spend. Each group should choose a different destination. At this point give each student a copy of the Dream Vacation Rules sheet and have them get started.

This activity ties is great when learning about the Olympics! Students rotate through 6 stations using estimation. The winner is determined by who has the lowest difference overall.

Students will work in groups to shop for the needed items and calculate the cost for a dinner for eight people. This activity can be extended by having students use Excel to create their spreadsheet and calculate expenses.
