Primary and Secondary Sources

I created this resource to introduce primary and secondary sources. I have two slides defining each. Then, I have a slide comparing and contrasting first and second hand accounts. I would have students complete the Venn Diagram first, and then show the answers after. Next, I have 11 slides for interactive practice. Students will be presented with various resources and decide whether each one is primary or secondary. They can use whiteboards, hand signals, or turn and talk to show what the

These editable Google Slides are the perfect Virtual Field Trip Guide for the San Diego Zoo Kids website. I created this to use as an engaging introduction for an animal research unit. I quickly realized that this WebQuest Field Trip was a week's worth of activities on its own! My students were so engaged and motivated to learn about a wide variety of animals. Students will need to make observations from video footage, summarize informational texts, locate key information from the website, and

Are you looking for a creative outlet without sacrificing content? This holiday card activity is the perfect way to blend math and ELA with your students’ artistic talents. They will simply answer each question, then add design elements to a greeting card based on their answers. To connect to writing, you could have students write friendly letters or poems on the inside of the cards. To extend this activity to a community building exercise, you could have students trade cards, give cards to teac

I used this as a brief quiz over text structures for my fourth graders. There are 5 questions. 4 questions are DOK 1 and the last question involves applying what they know. It aligns with RI4.5. I hope you can use this in your room! Enjoy!

Great for ELL and Newcomer students! This cut and glue activity is a great way to build language foundations in mathematics. The directions are simple. Students will cut the 3 forms of numbers (Spanish, English, and Symbol). Then, students will glue them in rows onto the chart. I like to have students make their own chart in a notebook so they can reference it throughout the year. That part is up to you! If needed, students could use Google Translate to help. I like for students to pract

This review game will put a paper airplane twist on your last week of school! Students will compete to see who knows their school, teachers, and elementary fun-facts the best. There are 24 questions that are designed to fit any elementary school. Students will design paper airplanes to guide them through this review. They will soar their airplane towards the home screen to select a question to answer. If they get the question correct, then they can earn more points by hitting a target with

Editable PowerPoint for the first week of school! I believe the first week is the most important week of the school year! I thought I should share everything I use to start the year off right. I teach 4th grade, math only. During the first week, I do read-alouds, writing prompts, and cooperative learning structures to build community. I don't focus on math content until week 2. This resource can be used for all subject areas, grades 3-5. The PowerPoint is totally editable, so you can custom

This resource contains 54 unique awards (b&w or color). All you need to do is pick your favorites, print, and then write in each name. The line at the bottom is for your signature. I have also included a PowerPoint slide show that you can use when presenting each award. The slide show presents each award, then transitions to reveal the recipients' name. The "name slides" are editable so you can type the name of each student. I have applied curtain transitions with applause audio to set the

Rounding on a Number Line This PowerPoint is an excellent tool for introducing rounding or reviewing at the end of the year. I prefer a more conceptual approach, so you will see this reflected in the product. -The PowerPoint begins with an analogy for rounding that students can relate to. -I have also included real-life examples to help students understand why rounding is an important skill. -The majority of the slides are dedicated to rounding using a number line. -I included a few sl

Have your current students write a welcome letter with tips for your future students! My kids love creating these brochures at the end of the year. They reflect on their favorite activities, write tips for success, and help future students get to know the teacher. Then, I hold on to the brochures over the summer for my next class. On the first day of school, these are waiting on the desks for my new students to read. It's a hit every year and a great way to build community within the school

Rounding with a number-line for fourth grade. I made these task cards to meet the rigor of CCSS. I kept coming across rounding practice that only rounds to the leading digit. This resource has a variety of problems- some require students to round to the leading digit and some require students to round within the number. These task cards can be used as a center, whole group activity, cooperative learning, or guided practice. I also love to use these in small groups! I have included 2 opti

This place value product could be used as a cooperative learning activity, partner work, or a math center. All you need to do is print the version(s) you want and pull out your base ten blocks. Students will gather the blocks they need. For example, they might need 22 tens and 8 ones. Then, students determine whether or not they need to regroup. They should see that 22 tens is really 2 hundreds and 2 tens. Then, students write the number in standard form: 228. Each page has a different extens

Set the tone during the first few minutes of the school year! I like to begin each year with this simple activity. It is designed so students will be able to complete it without any questions. This gives me the opportunity to greet each student and start building relationships during the first five minutes of the year! It also helps students ease into a daily routine and understand that our classroom is a structured environment. This is the perfect tone to establish in any room! For the wa

This set includes the following desk labels: 1a, 2b, 3a, 4b, 5a, 6b, and 5c. Print the labels that work best for your classroom on colored paper and tape to desk corners. These labels are not round. I made them this way so I could cut multiple pages at a time with a paper cutter. Last year I spent over an hour cutting all of the little circles for my desks. This year, these took me about 5 minutes to cut! These are great for table group cooperation. I love this for getting supplies as
