This decimals review project allows student to show their creativity by designing their own restaurant and then sampling the menus of their peers. Students work with adding decimals (menu items), subtracting decimals (discounts), multiplying decimals (multiple orders of the same item), and dividing decimals (dividing the bill amongst a group of people). It is a great way for students to review decimals while learning individually and exploring other peoples' creativity.
This assignment provides students with a real-life example of how integers are used. In this assignment, students record their food/drink intake and their exercise over two days. They then use that data to determine the numbers of calories they've consumed (+ number) and the calories they've burned (- number) and calculate how healthy they are. Want to review adding and subtracting large numbers? This activity/assignment is a great way for kids to be creative and practice this skill at the same time. Students will purchase large-ticket items for a celebrity of their choice and then add up the costs. Periodically there are discounts to be applied, so they can practice subtracting large numbers too.
